Course Description: This class consists of five days of training that focus on the new features available in SQL Server 2005. You will learn how to install SQL Server 2005; use the SQL Server 2005 client tools to administer databases and create database applications; administer the database engine; use SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) to import, export, and transform data; use SQL Server Replication to synchronize data between databases; use SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) to create dynamic database reports; perform intelligent and complex queries using SQL Server Full-Text Search (SSFTS); and use SQL Server Service Broker to establish asynchronous communications between database applications. You will also learn how to create international database applications; integrate XML with a database; monitor and improve database and server performance; backup and restore; and optimize data availability for an environment.

This course also includes an introduction to using SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) to create and manage data warehouse and implement data mining, and discusses in detail the new security concepts available in SQL Server 2005. There are several new programmability features available in SQL Server 2005 including integration of the database engine and the .NET Common Language Runtime (CLR). This course focuses on administration issues and discusses the programmability features at a high level.  Students who need a more thorough introduction to the Business Intelligence suite (SSRS, SSIS, SSAS) should attend either the SQL Server Business Intelligence Application Development (SSRS, SSIS, SSAS) course or the SQL Server Business Intelligence: Integration Services and Analysis Services course.

Students who are new to database concepts and fundamental SQL programming should attend the 3-day course SQL Programming/Relational Database Design prior to this course.

Course Prerequisites: Familiarity with database concepts, Windows desktop navigation and software installation techniques. Attendance at HOTT's 3-day SQL Programming/Relational Database Design course is highly recommended although not required.
